Two rebate programs available for condo and apartment owners — income-based (CleanBC) and non-income-based (BC Hydro). Grove Mechanical handles strata documentation and all rebate paperwork.

FAQ

Condo Rebate Questions

What's the difference between the two condo rebate programs?

The CleanBC Energy Savings Program offers higher rebates (up to $5,000 for heat pumps) but requires income qualification. The BC Hydro Condo and Apartment Rebate Program offers smaller rebates (up to $2,250 for heat pumps) but is available to all qualifying condo owners regardless of income. You can only use one program — they are not stackable.

Can condo owners get heat pump rebates?

Yes. There are two programs available. The CleanBC Energy Savings Program has a dedicated condo stream for income-qualified owners with rebates up to $5,000. The BC Hydro program is available to all condo owners with rebates up to $2,250. You must own the unit and your unit must currently be heated by electricity.

Do I need strata approval?

In most cases, yes. Installing a ductless mini-split requires an outdoor condenser unit, which typically needs strata council approval. Grove Mechanical can provide technical documentation and specifications to help you get strata approval. We've worked with many strata councils across the Lower Mainland.

What type of heat pump works in a condo?

Ductless mini-split heat pumps are the most common solution for condos. They require a small outdoor condenser unit (usually mounted on a balcony or exterior wall) and one or more indoor air handlers. They provide both heating and cooling, are very quiet, and are highly energy-efficient.

What are the income thresholds for the CleanBC program?

The CleanBC condo program has two income levels based on household size. Level 1 (higher rebates): 1 person — $47,007, 2 people — $58,522, 3 people — $71,945, 4 people — $87,350, 5 people — $99,072, 6 people — $111,735, 7+ people — $124,402. Level 2: 1 person — $61,697, 2 people — $76,810, 3 people — $94,428, 4 people — $114,647, 5 people — $130,032, 6 people — $146,653, 7+ people — $163,277. Visit betterhomesbc.ca for the latest official numbers.

Do I need pre-approval for the BC Hydro program?

Yes. The BC Hydro Condo and Apartment Rebate Program requires pre-approval before purchasing equipment. You must apply and be approved before proceeding with your installation. Grove Mechanical can help guide you through the pre-approval process.

Can I combine both programs?

No. The two programs are not stackable. If you meet the income qualification for CleanBC's Condo and Apartment Rebates, BC Hydro recommends you apply for that program instead, as it offers higher rebate amounts. If you don't qualify based on income, the BC Hydro program is your best option.

Can renters apply?

The rebate programs are generally for property owners, not renters. However, if you're a landlord who owns a condo unit, you may be able to apply for rebates on upgrades to your rental property. Contact the program directly or call Grove Mechanical for guidance.

Does Grove Mechanical install in condos?

Yes. We have extensive experience installing ductless mini-split heat pumps in condos and apartments across the Lower Mainland. We understand the unique challenges — strata requirements, noise restrictions, limited outdoor space, and building access. We handle everything from strata documentation to final commissioning.

Own a House Instead?

Homeowners can access even larger rebates through the Better Homes standard program or the Energy Savings Program.

Ready to Upgrade Your Condo?
